Autopauser, the Autopauser browser extension and this website are made by SixCentral. The short version: the app and the extension collect nothing about you, the app only goes online to check this website for updates, and this website only counts visits anonymously, without cookies. There are no accounts, no ads, no third-party trackers and no tracking across sites.
The Autopauser app
Autopauser runs on your PC. It looks at which apps are playing sound so it can fade your music out and back in, and it never sends that, or anything else about you or your PC, over the internet. The only thing it ever does online is look for updates, described below.
- Your settings are saved in
%APPDATA%\Autopauseron your PC. - If you switch on Enable logs, a small troubleshooting log is written to the same folder. It stays on your PC and is size-capped. You can delete it at any time, and uninstalling offers to delete it too.
Update checks
Autopauser can look for a newer version of itself. This is on by default, and you can switch it off at any time with Check for updates in Settings.
- Shortly after it starts, then about twice a day, and when you open Settings, the app downloads one tiny file from this website,
autopauser.com/downloads/latest.json(a few hundred bytes with the newest version number), and its signature. - Only when a newer version is announced does it download the new
Autopauser.exefrom the same place: after you click Update now, or automatically if you switched on Install updates automatically (off by default). - Nothing about you or your PC is sent. Like any request to a website, it reaches this server with your IP address and the app's name and version (for example "Autopauser/1.0.0"), which appear in the server's access logs described below. We don't use them to identify or track anyone.
- The version information is cryptographically signed. The app only installs an update when the signature, the file size and the checksum all match, so a different program can't be slipped in.
The Autopauser browser extension
The extension works on its own, or together with the app. It notices which browser tabs are playing sound, and for tabs on a short list of music sites (YouTube Music, Spotify, SoundCloud, Deezer, Tidal, Apple Music, Pandora, Bandcamp, Amazon Music, Qobuz and Last.fm) it reads the tab's address to tell music from video. On its own, it pauses and resumes the music tab itself. When the Autopauser app is running on the same PC, it passes this to the app instead, and pauses and resumes the music tab when the app asks it to.
- The only connection it makes is to the Autopauser app on your own computer (
127.0.0.1): to find it and, while it is running, to tell it which tabs are playing sound and whether each is music or video. It talks to no server and the internet is not involved. - It cannot read or change pages on any other site. A tab playing sound elsewhere is simply treated as video.
- It stores your settings (on or off, the resume delay, the fade length and the lower-volume choice) in the browser's local extension storage on your computer. They are not synced and not sent anywhere. A short list of tab numbers is kept in the browser's temporary session storage, which the browser clears when it closes.
- It does not collect, sell or share any data, and it does not use browsing history, page content, or personal information.
This website
This site is plain pages with no cookies, no ads and no third-party scripts, fonts or trackers, apart from one optional exception described below under "Donations". Nothing about visitors is sold or shared with anyone.
Local storage. There's a small easter egg hidden somewhere on this site. If you find it, it saves a tiny bit of progress in your browser's local storage so it can remember you. That stays on your device, is never sent to us, and you can clear it any time in your browser's site settings.
Privacy-first visitor counting. We don't use Google or any other third-party tracker. To see roughly how many people visit and which pages are read, we run our own copy of Umami, an open-source analytics tool, on a server we control, so the numbers never go to anyone else. It is cookie-less and anonymous: it doesn't store your IP address or any personal information, and it can't follow you from one website to another. It just tells us the lights are on, without knowing who you are.
- For each visit it records the page that was opened, the site that sent you here (if any), your browser and operating system, the type and screen size of your device, your language, and an approximate location such as your country. None of this identifies you. It also keeps a simple tally of clicks on the Download button (that a click happened and which of the two buttons it was), nothing about who clicked.
- Your IP address is only used while your visit is being handled, to work out that rough location. It is not stored with the statistics.
- The Autopauser app and the browser extension contain no analytics. The only time the app contacts this website is the update check described above, which is not part of this visitor counting.
Separately, as with any website, the server this site is hosted on may keep standard access logs (such as IP address, time and page or file requested) for security and troubleshooting. We do not use them to identify or track visitors.
The Download button on the home page serves the app from this site, so downloads, and the update checks described above, appear in the access logs mentioned above. We use those logs to keep one running total of how many times the app has been downloaded, which is shown on the home page once it is large enough. Only that single number is kept (the app's own updates are not counted), nothing about who downloaded it. To leave out automated scans and cancelled downloads, a download only counts when the whole file was sent to what looks like an ordinary web browser; that check happens as the log is read, and nothing about the request is kept. The browser extension is installed from the Chrome Web Store, which is run by Google and has its own privacy policy that applies when you visit it.
Donations
Autopauser is free. At the bottom of the home page there is an optional "Buy me a coffee" button that lets you leave a tip through Ko-fi.
- Nothing from Ko-fi is loaded when you simply visit this site. Only when you click the button does a window open that shows Ko-fi's donation form, and your browser then connects to Ko-fi (including your IP address), as when you visit their site.
- Closing the window removes the form again. Payments are handled by Ko-fi and its payment provider, never by this website, and we do not see your payment details.
- Ko-fi has its own privacy policy that applies from the moment the window opens. If you prefer, the button also works as a normal link that opens Ko-fi in a new tab.
Changes and contact
The Support button in the footer just opens your own email app with a message to us (mail@sixcentral.net). Nothing is sent until you send it yourself, and if you do, we use your message and email address only to reply to you.
If this policy changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new date. Questions? Get in touch through SixCentral.
